CIM has recently supplied CHRYSLER Toledo, a leading US automotive manufacturer, with the high volume ME2000 metal plate embosser equipped with a new VISION SYSTEM for real time verification of the embossed data on VIN tags.

The CHRYSLER Toledo, located in the general Toledo, OH area, is a major assembly plant for CHRYSLER.  This plant has seen the implementation of many automated processes over the last decade. In fact, many of the assembly line parts are delivered to the line operators by unmanned, robotic vehicles today. This plant, like many of the CHRYSLER plants is dedicated to delivering a quality product and is committed to continuous process practices that guarantee that we’re driving the best automotives possible.

When the CHRYSLER Toledo expressed a need to error-proof the VIN tag embossing efforts there, CIM supplied a VISION technology that was provided with their ME series embossers, and this was just the solution that CHRYSLER needed.  The CIM VISION SYSTEM has a mounted camera inside the embosser that takes a picture of the plate, at the moment after it has been embossed.  The system pauses for a brief moment so the picture may be taken, before ejecting the completed plate to either the internal FIFO stacker or side eject. The CIM embosser looks at the last data record that was sent and compares the picture of the plate and its embossed characters with the data file. If it gets an exact match, all is good and the system proceeds to the next plate in line. If, however, even one of the characters is incorrect and/or not legible, the system creates an error and the embosser goes into error mode. It stops and the front panel red light flashes. The operator then can address the problem, remove the plate, look at and/or compare against the last record, and do a remake if necessary.

Due to the success with CHRYSLER Toledo, CIM  has now developed a new product, the ME2000 VS with VISION SYSTEM, which is now available for all production application, and which focuses on data traceability and accuracy above all. The solution includes the hardware and software required to implement the solution in any production environment.

The
CIM ME2000 VS with VISION SYSTEM is the ideal solution for production critical applications where verification and future traceability is of utmost importance. The solution is specifically targeted towards the automotive, aerospace, naval and military manufacturing industries.
